All About Bipolar: Rituals and odd behaviors

Posted By atorturedsoul on August 21, 2009

I have noticed that I have some more odd rituals and behaviors.

A while ago I listed some of my odd behaviors and rituals. In case you don’t remember, I will list them:

  • I cannot stand hair touching me-especially wet hair and even if it’s my own.
  • I prefer baths to showers because I am afraid dirt or hair will come back up the drain.
  • I have to repeatedly rinse the tub to remove all hair and dirt before I will run bath water.
  • I cannot stand anything touching my feet so I wear socks all the time.

I was getting ready to go to sleep last night when I noticed other things that I hadn’t paid much attention to. I have rituals I must do before I go to sleep.

I have certain places on the table beside my bed for everything. I have my meds in a certain place. I have a glass in a certain place and I have my cell phone in a certain place. There is a designated spot for my remote control. I even have a certain spot for my cigarettes. Everything has to be in its place. My rationality behind this is that if I wake up in the middle of the night, I know where everything is in the dark so I don’t have to turn on the lamp and risk waking my husband. If something is out of place, I could knock something over or knock it into the floor trying to find something in the dark.

Once all of that is in place, there are other things I must do. Part of it sort of goes along with the hair issue and it is something that I do every night so I don’t know why I haven’t considered this to be a ritual before. Before I go to sleep, I pull all of my hair back so it isn’t touching my face and it has to be laid out behind me on the pillow. I also have to have the comforter pulled up above my ear but curved around so it doesn’t cover my nose.  I cannot go to sleep until I do all of that just right.

Anyway, that’s some more of my oddities.

I’m the same way with hair. I can’t stand it touching me and if I see a bunch of it in the garbage after somebody cleans the hairbrush I gag. I’m the opposite with socks though. I rarely wear them, even in the winter. I just don’t like having my feet covered. Also, I can’t sleep with the comforter over my nose either.

    Have a wonderful day!
