All About Bipolar: Haggling with car dealers

I am negotiating with two car dealerships trying to get the very best deal possible. I am sure both of them hate me by now as I am making both of them work hard to beat the others deal.

I admit that I don’t really NEED a new car. However, my Durango just flipped 100,000 miles and my payments are over $300 a month on it. With the CARS rebate, I can pay off the Durango and get a new car. They are going to have to give me a deal that keeps my payments the same or less to sell to me and it is possible with both places. I’m still making them work to give me more for less. Hey, if they really want the sale (and we all know the dealerships need to sell cars right now) then they will work to make me a deal I can’t refuse. I can’t afford to make a payment bigger than the one I have but both offers are going to meet it or beat it.

My tactic is this: I am bouncing one dealer off the other. I am getting one dealer to make me a great offer and then telling the other dealer what deal they are making me and telling them to beat it or I will have to take the other one up on their offer. If they beat it, I will take that offer to the other dealer and ask them to beat it. I can keep this up all day. I will simply keep going back and forth until they hit their bottom prices and go from there.

I can guarantee you that both salesmen are talking to their bosses to see what they can offer me to beat the other’s deal. Wish me luck!

Well, now I am adding a third dealer into the mix. This is getting interesting. It gives me more leverage!
