All About Bipolar: Help send my daughter to Japan!

Is anyone familiar with the People to People program? It’s a program that allows American students to study in a foreign country for three months during the summer. My daughter received an invitation to study in Japan during the 2010 summer break.

This is a huge opportunity for her and would look great on her college applications. It also gives them a leg up on scholarships (which she desperately needs). It would give her a great advantage in several different ways.

I have to attend a meeting in August to find out the exact cost and their itinerary but I have been doing some research online. Last year’s trip to Japan cost $6499 so I assume it will be the same price (maybe a tad more) this year. I will have until April 2010 to raise enough money for her to go and hopefully I can accomplish that. I cannot afford to put much towards it since I am still paying on my father’s burial so I will have to rely mostly on donations and some fund raising.

I have already started a list of potential corporate sponsors but we live in an area where cows outnumber people and there just isn’t that much here. Her grandmother works at a local bank and is going to open a savings account so individuals can make donations and I fully intend to write an article for our local newspaper. Aside from this, I only have one other avenue to explore.

Did I mention that today is my daughter’s 14th birthday? I wouldn’t normally do this but I am going to place a widget on this site so people can make donations towards her trip. Please do not feel obligated to donate. I know how hard the recession is hitting everyone and I don’t want anyone to donate that can’t afford to do so. BUT, if you just happen to have money lying around that you were contemplating using to start fires in your fireplace this winter then maybe you could send some of that her way.

Oprah, Montel, Ellen, Rosie: If you’re reading here, please donate money to send my daughter to Japan as a foreign exchange student!
